The Self Locking Washer is placed onto the top of the pin and pressed down until the washer touches the insulation. It is important not to compress the insulation to avoid loss of thermal performance.

Push Back the Top Panel Step back in front of the washer and grip the front edge of the top panel. Push back firmly until you feel the position on the hinges shift. This should loose the top panel from the rest of the washer cabinet.
Try using square-jawed pliers with jaws as wide as the clip, like lineman's pliers. Put one jaw against the open side of the clip and the other just above the clip on the other side of the post, with the pliers tilted slightly to accommodate the difference in height.

Aug 23, 2012 · Hello to those on this thread. I have purchased these "Push Nuts" as they are known in the industry. They are a pain to remove. But, you can easily purchase them at www.mcmaster.com. Just search for "push nuts'. They have many sizes and materials to choose from as well as other alternate parts. BTW, I am not affiliated with McMaster-Carr.
