So it gets three stars for that. Loses two stars because it cause an erratic idle when cold. The idle surges around between 700-1100 cold. Once the car warms up and has been restarted, it works fine. I’ve verified with another VANOS solenoid, the OEM one works flawlessly regardless of engine temp. 2011 MCS, R56 with N18 engine.
I'm getting both codes 2A7A and 2A7C with check engine light. I've already replaced VANOS solenoids, camshaft position sensors, and cleaned filter/check valves. I've checked voltage to solenoids and relearned actuator limit stops. On cold starts the RPMs rev up to 1500 for a second and back down then there's a rough idle until the car warms up.

These VANOS faults may be caused by insufficient oil pressure supply to the inlet VANOS adjustment unit. To effectively move the camshafts to the target positions in the specified time and under all engine conditions, sufficient oil pressure supply to the VANOS control pistons was required.
